Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome

Acupuncture for Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)

An acupuncturist works to relieve symptoms of polycystic ovarian syndrome PCOS by removing blocked energy [ blood & oxygen] along the channels related to the reproductive system. This stimulation improves blood flow and oxygen to the reproductive organs, assists in the regulation of hormone levels and generally promotes a healthier reproductive system.

Acupuncture is particularly helpful in the regulation and management of a woman’s period. It also normalises the appetite (which is often enhanced by PCOS’s increased testosterone levels in the body), assists in weight management, reduces stress levels, headaches and the patients overall wellbeing and mood.

Getting acupuncture treatment for PCOS early on is vital to a woman’s success with the disorder. PCOS, or Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, also known as Stein-Leventhal syndrome, is a serious threat to women’s health. This is especially true when the condition is left untreated for a long period of time. It can hit women at almost any age range– from teenagers to middle aged, and the severity of its devastation can vary wildly from one woman to the next. PCOS does not discriminate, and therefore must be taken very seriously.

It’s caused by hyposecretion of the female sex hormones (Luteinising hormone). The effects include: irregular menstrual cycle, multiple growth of follicular ovarian cysts and sometimes infertility, enlarged ovaries. Obesity is common in 50% of patients and they can become Hirsute (hairy).
